Key Questions During An Interview
1. Tell me about yourself? – This is an ideal opening question which will allow you to put forward your strengths, your requirements and what your future plans are. BE POSITIVE
2. What do you know about this job? – Have the job spec in front of you; use your knowledge of the company to explain your understanding of the role
3. Why do you think you can do this job? - Match your skill base to the requirements for the role. This is a good time to mention your qualifications and previous experience, mention your personality attributes
4. Tell me what your responsibilities are in your current job? - Be precise, think about your key responsibilities and list them, mention where you “fit in” your organisation (have your CV in front of you)
5. What are your strengths? - Use buzz words to describe you - “proactive” “reliable” “committed”, do not be afraid to mention these things but be careful not to sound arrogant
6. What are your weaknesses? - Always try to be positive here, do not list your short falls, think about turning this question around. Mention something that you might previously have had difficulty with but took steps to overcome. i.e. you felt your PC skills were not adequate and so enrolled on an evening course to up date them
7.What are your salary expectations? You should be aware of what the salary range is for the role you are being interviewed for. You can say, “I understand that the salary band for this position is £X and I would consider this fitting for my skills and experience”. If there is an increase from your current salary to the one on offer you can always say “ I have been looking for the additional challenge of a new role and therefore feel the additional salary should represent the increase in responsibilities of the role”
